Dr Ian Katz graduated with First Class Honours from The University of Cape Town Medical School in 1987.
After 3 years research in Cape Town and Philadelpha he moved to Australia i
n 1991. His specialization in Pathology, with joint qualifications in Histopathology and Chemical Pathology, was obtained in 1997 after 5 years training, predominantly at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. He obtained his Fellowship from the Royal College of Pathologists for Australasia in 1997.
Dr Ian Katz established this pathology practice in July 2002. For the last 7 years he has focused virtually exclusively on the clinical and pathological diagnosis and management of skin cancer.
Because of this extensive experience, Dr Katz is happy to consult with skin cancer patients as well as perform biopsies and excisions himself. In this way the very best dermatopathological correlation of patients and results is ensured.
Ian is an active member of the Skin Cancer Society of Australia. He loves to play squash, golf and windsurf.

Dr Lishuang Chen graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1998. She currently posesses a MB, BS, FRCGP, SCCANZ/SCSA certificate (skin cancer) and a dermatology diploma.
Dr Chen completed her GP Registrar training for 3-4 years in North Queensland mainly working in rural areas where she obtained a great deal of experience with skin cancer diagnosis and management. Since 2003, she has worked part time at a skin cancer clinic in Sydney. She also works part time as a GP at a family medical practice.
Dr Chen Joined Southern Sun in March 2009. She regularly participates in continued professional developement activities as required by the RACGP. Dr Chen is currently studying for a Masters of Skin Cancer from the University of Queensland.
Dr Chen has a special interest in skin cancer diagnosis and management and other dermatological conditions. Dr Chen is happy to see patients with dermatological conditions outside of skin cancer. Patients are encouraged to book a seperate appointment for discussing other dermatological conditions.
Dr Shaun Segal graduated from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa in 1997 and began his surgical training at one of the largest teaching hospitals worldwide, the internationally renowned Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, South Africa.
After two years post-graduate surgical training, Dr Segal subsequently mo
ved to London, United Kingdom, where he completed his surgical training. Following four years of surgical training, he worked in London for an additional four years to gain his necessary qualifications in general practice.
During his general practice training, Dr Segal obtained post-graduate diplomas in paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, family planning and forensic medicine.
In addition to his general practice work, Dr Segal worked for Scotland Yard, the British Crown Prosecution Service, British Transport Police and the Metropolitan Police Service as a forensic medical examiner for five years before emigrating to Australia in May 2008.
Dr Segal currently works as a general practitioner with specialist skills in minor surgery, more specifically in skin cancer medicine. He is also the co-director of Southern Sun Healthcare.
Dr Segal currently holds the following qualifications: MBBCH (Wits), FRACGP (Aus), MRCGP (UK), DCH (UK), DFFP (UK), DRCOG (UK).
Dr Sarah Bird graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1994. She completed her GP Training in and around the hospitals and GP surgeries of Bristol UK, finally settling for 8 years as a GP Partner in a large teaching practice outside of Bristol.
Sarah’s interests developed in Dermatology and Minor Surgery throughout this time offering weekly minor surgery sessions for her patients. Sarah’s other interests include Women’s Health and she spent a six month sabbatical in Christchurch, New Zealand working for the NZ Family Planning Association in 2004.
She emigrated along with her husband and three children to Australia in January 2008 and is now working as a General Practitioner with a special interest in Minor Surgery, Skin Cancer diagnosis and treatment but welcomes general consultations too.
Her qualifications include MBBCh (Wales), DFFP (UK), MRCGP (UK) and FRACGP (Aus).
